ALBURY
The gateway to the wonders of the Murray region and to some of the
most beautiful scenery in Australia.
Top Attractions
- Albury Regional Museum - Built in 1854, this
museum displays items and photographs relating to the history of
Albury and various towns of the Upper Murray.
- Albury Regional Art
Centre -
Albury’s main art gallery features displays of ceramics, paintings
and photographs, including a collection of works by Russell Drysdale
and a series of photographs depicting media personalities and their
families. Touring Exhibitions occur regularly.
- Gateway Complex - The major tourist
centre for Albury/Wodonga featuring a number of stalls displaying
local arts and crafts.
- Botanic Gardens - These gardens date
back to the 1800’s and are the showpiece of Albury. They feature
ornamental ponds, a fern walk and a Calabrian pine grown from a seed
and taken from the Lone Pine in Gallipoli.
- Lake Hume - Contains a power
station that provides northern Victoria and southern New South Wales
with electricity. It is also a pleasant place for recreation with
plenty of activities including fishing, sailing, water-skiing and
swimming available.
- Ettamogah Sanctuary - Located 16 kilometres
northeast of Albury, this is an absolute heaven for nature lovers.
The sanctuary houses a number of native animals and birds, some of
them casualties that are being nursed back to health.
- Tandanya - An Aboriginal cultural
centre featuring galleries, a workshop and performing areas.
- Beechworth Bakery – Located 35 minutes from
the Albury Manor House, the best cakes and sweets in the Region.
- Rutherglen Wineries – Historic boutique
wineries established in the early 1850’s only 30 minutes from the
Albury Manor House.

- Drive Tours - One of the best ways
to see the Albury/Wodonga region is by taking a drive tour put
together by the tourist centre.
- Paddlesteamer Cumberoona - Take a trip on this
wood-fired paddlesteamer for a closer look at the beautiful Murray
River.
- Walking on the
Albury/Wodonga Trail System - A series of easy-medium grade walking tracks
cross the two cities, providing interesting views and picnic spots.
